"Landscape is a way of seeing, a composition and structure of the world so that it may be appropriated by a detached, individual spectator to whom an illusion of order and control is offered through the composition of space according to the certainties of geometry".
-Denis Cosgrove:
Prospect, Perspective and the Evolution of the Landscape Idea. 1985
The appropriation of space offers a perplexing comparison between a seemingly concrete reality of property/territory and the grey zones of personal perception. Prospect brings together seven artists to examine individual, communal, political and literal perspectives affected by critical distance.
