Shalom: Photographs from Eliška's Archives

October 9 - November 7, 2015

Wednesday - Saturday 10:00 - 6:00 pm
Opening Reception: October 9, 2015 5:00-9:00pm

The works in this show are based on black and white photographs and prints that Eliška (Ellie) Mörsel-Greenspoon took and processed herself.  She combined, layered and manipulated several negatives in the print, allowing her to experiment with a variety of photographic processes.  This process of layering and manipulation of the photographs allowed her to create one single image composed of multiple photographs, photo-collages.  These photo-collages are then hand embellished with photographic toning and/or hand painting.

In addition to the photo-collages Eliška used multiple parts of torn photographs to construct/reconstruct images in a series of montages she called “ Torn and Assembled”.

Eliška Morsel-Greenspoon was born in Chomutov, Czechoslovakia. She earned her B.F.A from Virginia, Commonwealth University, and a M.F.A at Clemson University.
