Jenny Robinson: “My work has always been informed by my immediate environment - where I live, work and go has a direct impact on the subject matter I am drawn to.”
Jenny Robinson’s works are powerful. They strip away the romance of large urban structures and show their grandness and imply their influence on society as they decay from environmental conditions. Even though Robinson’s prints are made in editions each one is individually produced; making each one unique and a monoprint.
“My work has always been informed by my immediate environment - where I live, work and go has a direct impact on the subject matter I am drawn to. After moving from London to San Francisco in 2001, I became fascinated by structures displaying a sense of strength and energy, but ignored, threatened by the passage of time to ultimate defeat by corrosion and decay. My work is concerned with depicting how these giant structures appear, not through a sense of romantic yearning for the past, but by responding to location and documenting how they appear to me, now, in the moment.” Jenny Robinson
Born in the United Kingdom and raised in Borneo, Jenny Robinson studied for her Bachelor of Fine Arts Printmaking Degree at West Surrey College of Art and Design in England and has traveled extensively around the world. Since moving to San Francisco in 2001, she has had multiple exhibitions and has taught printmaking in colleges and institutes including the Kala Art Institute, the San Francisco Center for the Book, the Institute of Contemporary Art in San Jose, and California State University at Chico.
Jenny Robinson will be in Omaha to teach at the Frogman Print Workshop presented at the University of Nebraska Omaha from July 4 through July 16, 2016.
