Art has always reflected and recorded the feelings of society at the time when the artworks were created. This project was designed to do that, to record the feelings of 20 artists. They each received a prepared etching plate and were charged with creating an image on their plate with the SUBJECT of THE ARTIST’S REACTION TO COVID THE PANDEMIC.
How do you help artists continue to create art while there is a pandemic that is closing down our country? How do you allow the artists to practice their profession when they cannot go to their schools or studios to do their artwork? You mail the materials to the artists, have them create their images in the safety of their home, have them mail the materials back and then prepare and print the etchings for them. ALL AT NO COST TO THE ARTISTS. All from an idea by benfactor Jeanne Jaroch and funded by John Thein.
When the plates were returned to Roberta & Bob Rogers Gallery we etched them using the environmentally safe method of electrolysis, cleaned the plates, inked and wiped the plates and printed them on the American French Tool etching press at the RBR G gallery on Rives BFK paper.
What you will see are 20 etchings recording our history as the 20 artists saw and felt the pandemic.
Through out the duration of this outstanding show will be a wide variety of print related workshops, gallery talks, panel discussions and even long distance online experiences.
Each artist has written a statement discussing and describing their thoughts and ideas about the pandemic and with their response expressed using their VISUAL VOICE through their etchings. These statements will be presented with their prints during the exhibition. A selection of these statements is in a separate document.

Safety: We believe in being very safe during this time of the Covid pandemic, but we also believe that visual arts need to be seen directly to be fully enjoyed and fully appreciated. (1.) Wear masks, (2.) Socially distance and (3.) Limit the number of attendees. Masks are available.
