Omaha, NE- Gallery 72 is proud to announce the opening of a new 1800 sq. ft. gallery space at 1806 Vinton St, in the heart of the Vinton Street art district. Nationally recognized textile artist Mary Zicafoose will present a solo exhibition at the grand opening of the gallery on Friday, February 1, 2013 from 5:00 – 9:00 p.m.

After 2 months of renovation, the gallery has installed a state-of the art lighting system and restored the original 13-foot tin clad ceiling. According to gallery owner John Rogers, “ the opening of this new gallery space celebrates my parents legacy and the gallery’s 40 year history. We are excited to offer a first-class gallery space that showcases contemporary art and fine art prints of established and emerging artists from across the country.”

Gallery 72 was founded by Roberta and Robert Rogers as an avant-garde gallery exhibiting modern and contemporary art.  After several years of working out of their home on Jones Street they established the gallery in 1972 on 72nd Street that became the inspiration for the gallery’s name.

In 1974, Roberta and Bob purchased a building at 2709 Leavenworth Street.  The second floor was renovated and became one of Omaha's first loft-style living spaces.   Roberta and Bob became recognized for their infamous potluck dinners that they hosted on Thursday nights before the opening of an exhibition.  The potlucks brought artists and collectors together in lively conversations and where numerous long-term friendships were formed.  For many, this was their first introduction to art and artists, which ultimately became the lynchpin for the development of Omaha’s vibrant art community.

John Rogers took over the ownership and management of the gallery in 2008 and has continued the business traditions established by his parents, while reestablishing Gallery 72 one of premier art galleries in Omaha.
